What a GREAT Teaser! Gorgeous Day ,,,Perfect for starting a few Spring Things!

I got up before Sunrise, but it looked to be a gorgeous day! And I wasn't disappointed,,,,,,,60' Somethin' in February??? Wowza! And the skies were blue and clear!

So,,,I did a bit of this, a bit of that,,,,,and spent some time working on a few "Spring-like items." If you've stopped in lately, you know I've been making wreaths out of Natural toned moss,,,,,so today, was a great day-with all the birds chirping and "flitting" here and there, to make some Nests!

Neutrals, with hints of pink and Green..........

These are not as elaborate or multi-textured as my friend Vicki's-which are sensational,,,,,,but it was fun to work with the different textures,,,,,,,

I enjoyed adding a "titsch" of feathers,,,,,here and there......

(Boss Clarice at Joyworks introduced me to that word,,,,,,,and sometimes it's just "Right!")

Kind of like a "Smidgeon," only Better!

One more nest today,,,,,,,with "golden eggs."

And last week, I swore NO MORE Valentines,,,,,,,,but I already had this heart shaped wreath ready,,,,,,so? It was fun to add some "Spring" to it! I figured, even though it's heart shaped, it'll work for any Season!

Flowers, Eggs, Mushrooms-Pinks/Aqua a feather tucked here and there.......

These items are coming with me to the Second Saturdayz show this coming weekend

I'm also re-thinking Etsy. I did it for a while,,,,and then got "busy." And now I'm thinking Maybe I should post stuff for sale again........if you have any input one way or another, let me know! Here or Via email.......

Sidebar: My little Helen (92yo) had laser eye surgery today,,,,,,,I hope you'll keep her in your thoughts and prayers as her eyesight has affected EVERY aspect of her life,,,,,physically AND emotionally! Let's hope today will make enough of a difference that she can remain in her OWN little home,,,,,with her fur-baby, "Mikey," her Pom.....Give her a BIT more of her independence back!

A Gorgeous Day! Can't think of any other way to end it,,,,other than to share a Friend!

If you live in the Pacific Northwest, then you KNOW, it doesn't get much prettier than today! Truly,,,,,there are NO Bluer skies than in Seattle, when the air is Crisp, and the sun is out! You just have to live here,or visit here to see it! We were SUPER busy at Joyworks today,,,with "day tripper's"-Folks (okay, mostly groups of gals) from the likes of Olympia, Snoqualmie, etc.) We heard lots of -"What a GREAT shop, fabulous clothes,,,,this is Too Cute." All from "first timer's who came to spend the day in Snohomish.

So? I came home and after feeding my "mini zoo" I logged on and noticed that one of my long time blog friends Lisa, is not only Celebrating 3 years blogging, but also having a fun Valentine Giveaway.

(This was the image posted on my blog as a New Follower to my blog that brought Lisa to my attention,,,,,,how could it NOT?)

Yeah, I could just post it on my Sidebar with a linky, or at this point in my post, I could just incorporate it into my post,,,,,,,,BUT- I want to tell you a BIT about Lisa and her blog first.

I've known Lisa for a couple of years now in "Blogland." One of the things I truly love about her blog, is that she too, is "all over the board." One day, she'll post a great recipe, another day she'll post about family life-say a Wedding in the works, other day's she'll have a home decor update--- and other posts a Cartoon or Quote, with a fun or meaningful insight. Lisa's blog is REAL, heartfelt, open and ernest. She's not trying to impress anyone with anything. I LOVE THAT! And,,,,,the reason I posted this, is that I think you will too!

So yes, Go over to her blog, Say "Hi." Introduce yourself if you Don't know her, and read a few blog posts. I think you'll love her,,,and want to keep tabs on what she's up to. I'd think you too would want to "follow." And I don't think you'd leave your "blog friendship" in better hands,,,,,or with a better heart! Ever!

"Sweet Birthday" Today for Clarice......and "Paper Roses"

Today? We celebrated our awesome boss, Clarice's Birthday at Joyworks! We haven't ALL been together since December as we all work different days,,,,,,so it was "Catch up" time too. Suffice it to say, I spent more time "gabbing" and listening, than I did taking serious photos!

We had a decadent brunch of pastries, fruit, juice and coffee.........Yummy!

Lots of Spring Colors and we had a GORGEOUS Sunny (albeit Chilly) Day!

Several of us are Gardeners, so we're looking for hints of Spring!

"Put a Fork in Me-I'm Done!" (Last of the Valentine's and on to Spring!)

From the looks of the National weather maps on the new this morning,,,,,it looks like MOST of us are having some GREAT weather! Well, at least great weather in terms of it being February! And today, in the Seattle area, was no exception!

I had a GREAT walk with my friend Kelly and our Fur-babies just before sitting down to post! It was still just a BIT light out and we were gifted with fantastic scattered Pink and Gold clouds to the West.

Today, I finished the last of my Valentine "stuff" for this year. It truly is a holiday that I love,,,The pinks, the romance, the bits of lace, flowers ..........

This one, Machine sewn ,,,with hand made paper flowers (more sheet music and unbleached coffee filters.) Layers of "creamy goodness."

Tomorrow though? I'm starting "SPRING!" Flowers/Birds, Butterflies and heading towards (ackk!) thoughts of Easter.......

But NOT starting "Spring" until we have a Birthday Gathering for my Boss Clarice tomorrow! I'll "fire up" my camera tonight and take a few photos of our festivities!

Steven Tyler's Got "Nothing on Me!" New Hair "Bling,,,,,aka, Shell the Guinea Pig!

Have you ever tried to take a picture of your hair, yourself? Yes/NO? Well, it's not easy! But I had to show you my "Latest",,,,,,,,"Hair Bling" from my stylist, Erica at Tom Walker's- Red Strand Salon.

More hair stuff,,,,,,,,aka Bling!

If you've followed my blog for a while, you know I got "Pinked" about a year ago. I have strands of Hot pink running through my hair,,,,,,,,and then,,,,,,,What the HECK,,,,,,,,I got some "hair tinsel" in pink too!

And then,?,,,,,,,,,Not to be TOO predictable,,,,,,,I had lime green feather extensions added...........Why not?

Several months ago, I ran into an "Octo" friend of mine,,,,,,The liberal, social, and funny Joanne,,,,in her early 80's and she circled my body slowly, all the while looking at my hair and said,,,,,"What is THAT?"

Moi- "Pink Streaks."

And "What is THAT?"

Moi-"Pink Hair Tinsel."

"And THAT?"

Moi- "My Green Feathers."

She earnestly looked me in the eyes and said, "Honey, you've got to keep MOVING when you're in the Salon, or they're just going to keep adding MORE stuff!."

We laughed together, and I took it under advisement, but knowing Joanne, she was more amazed than judgemental..........

So Today? I got "Newly Pinked." Newly Tinseled, and had my feathers put back in,,,,,,,,But Wait!

"I got "Blinged" too! Well, a gal with a blog aptly named "Bungalow Bling" doesn't have to think for TOO long when her stylists suggests she tries something NEW!.........So Erica flat ironed a row of rhinestones into my hair as well,,,,,,,,,,,,,Lovin' it, but I'm an "experiment." A First for the Salon. We'll see how long it lasts........No Charge, mind you,,,,,,,,,Shell, the Guinea Pig!

And,,,,,,,,My haircut was "FREE" today, from referral clients.

Special Prayers and Love going out today to, Jodene,,,,,,whom along with her awesome husband Tom (Tom Walker's) started the Salon. Jodene is dealing with Lymphoma, to put it mildly. They are LONG established members of my little town,,,,,,and as close to family as you can get,,,,,without acutally being family.

Love them ALL,,,,,,,my heart, prayers and Smiles go out to all of their family/friends/clients!

And,,,,,,Even though I know she'll never read this,,,,I'm sending this message right now...."Okay Jodene,,my language may shock you and others......"Kick Some Cancer's Ass! Right now!" and,,,,,,,,on the other hand,,,,,God Bless! And I'm praying and thinking about your situation!

Congrats to Cari Bruno of "Lucky Girl Gifts" Blog fame! http://luckygirlgifts.blogspot.com/ Cari's name/comment was picked using the Random Number Generator! She was the last one to comment regarding my giveaway-so last isn't always a bad thing!

And, Cari winning? Is rather Ironic, given me being published and talking about when I first got started. Cari was pretty much "there" from the beginning. I bought some things from her Etsy site,,,,,and got to know her.
She's a young mom, has a busy life, but is Uber talented,,,,,,,,so check out her blog/Etsy site! You'll love it/her!

So,,,,,Today? I worked on a couple of things, some larger wreaths and a few Pins......

"Hints of Spring" Wreath

Honestly? I LOVE this wreath,,,,,,,,,,if I do say so myself. My favorite colors,,,,,,,,Neutrals, touches of Spring green, and apricot. And I've been "playing" around with this "heavy duty" crepe paper I bought at Maxine's Floral in Seattle http://www.maxinesfloral.com/

Maxine has this A-Mazing Crepe paper that I've never seen before,,,,,,,,it's Truly heavy Duty! She's got TONS of colors, and I'm kicking myself now, that I only bought TWO! I made a FEW Huge flowers with it,,,,,,,and some leaves and simply loved it's texture, strength and possibilities! So this morning?, I made some smaller flowers and added to the wreath shown above...........but here is a closeup image............

I had some "berry bobs" of sorts, for lack of a better term,,,,,which I used for centers, and then I made several of these "lily-type" flowers for the wreath. I just kind of cut/glued and curled....this was an experimental project, that went "right!" (Trust me, this is NOT always the case! ask me about the "Bunny from HELL" sometime -or other trials that ended badly,,,,,if you'd like! (Sometimes? You try stuff and it just Doesn't work!)

Well, and this wreath, almost "bit the dust," because well, if you follow my FB comments, or not,,,,,,my son had an car accident yesterday,,,,,,(Ice on his college campus at (WWU) hit a light pole/my/our car totalled) and we were on the phone today, talking insurance, soreness (he's OKAY!) etc,,,,,and when I walked back in the livingroom-my Studio in the basement has just been TOO cold to work in right now....... and found my Lab, Shadow, had not only upended said wreath, but had chewed on/ate part of the wreath! (Apparently German Cotton Spun Mushrooms are a Dog's delicacy!) So, if you refer BACK to my first pic, you'll notice, on the left, side, Large mushroom is replace by two smaller ones,,,,,,,and a decent "re-glue" job,,,,,,if I DO say so myself!

I worked on a couple of other wreaths that need to be "tweaked," but then switched to some jewelry/Pins because I am never one to do one thing TOO long......(You know about the ADD, already, right?)

So here's a few new pins I worked on today...........The Color rendition is a BIT off, as I waited till right before posting (dark) to photograph,,,,,,,but you get the idea.....

I even had fun incorporating some feathers into a couple of the pieces that I worked on! I love trying/testing new things. Gettting more texture, more "Surprise!"

I drove by on Thursday and noticed TONS of packing boxes outside our store. I can't wait to SEE what's new!

Fun, Easy Valentine's Quick, "How To"

Sometime around 4:00am, I started thinking about making these Valentines out of doilies,,,,,isn't it weird when you get ideas in the middle of the night out of,,,nowhere? Anyway, will having my morning coffee, several hours later, mind you,,,,,,,this is what I'd thought of....

Doillies, ribbon, and a few shells or Buttons.....

These "Open" at the top between the ribbons, so you can put a piece of Candy or a little somethin' inside.....

Just glue(gun) two doillies together leaving the area I marked Open
(I did one side, then the other, so I could line the doillies up evenly.)
Then add your trims......
I used narrow seem binding on these.

I stamped my top one with some script before gluing together,,,,but you could leave plain, add a sticker, etc.

The doillies I used are smaller ones, about 4" but you could use the larger ones too.

I might try tea staining some of these before assembling.

If you make some, send me a link or photo, I'd love to see your versions!

(It's a "Helen Day" for me, we haven't been out since the Snowstorm,,,,,,92yo bones and Snow do NOT mix! So,,,,,Groceries, Pharm, Bank and a lunch somewhere!)

A "Simple" Blog Giveaway? Not so much!

It appears, that SHEW- once again, (Thank you Blogger) I Am able to get/read Post Comments ! At least today. And, I've got to say, the comments I've gotten as of late, for my Giveaway, that ends on the 27th of January, have been incredible.

I'm not talking about the volume, or the "Prize." I'm talking about the Comments I've gotten about "Wishes." For, you see, my Initial Giveaway featured "A Fairy Godmother" and what you would wish for? Wow. Wow.

And Girlfriend? We are NOT talking about wishes for wealth, trips, "Prince Charming" or for that matter, anything self-serving. Anyone that left af Comment about their "Wishes"-did so for something VERY serious, or for someone else! You can go back and read some of the comments if you'd like,,,but when I hear things like, "wishes for friends and spouses with Cancer" or other life threatening situations? It kind of stops me in my tracks! When I hear comments from Blog friends that either THEY or their friends are going through the "Big Stuff" it totally puts things in perspective
for me.

If you've known me for a while, you KNOW, I've been through a LOT of "Big Stuff" myself. Perhaps that is why my creations are either whimsical, or romantic. I trust I'm not alone in this. Artists that create Whimsey, humor, romance or nostalgic themed items fill a "little corner of their life" in the process-and Wish/Hope to "lure" you in to those creations and memories. It's not a tactical ploy,,,,,,truly, we just want YOU to love/remember/embrace too!

If you "throw Aunt Edna's" quilt over your bed,,,,,,,,it's probably not just for warmth. If you've kept "Grandpa Ed's Cardigan" it's probably because you remember him telling you stories or providing family history and antics while wearing it.

I Cannot take away your pains. I wish I COULD. Truly. What I HOPE to be is a friend,,,,,near OR far, that can hold you, make you laugh, make you forget --at least for a FEW minutes. Encourage you,,,,,,,,or just plain "Give you a HUG," physically OR "virtually."

It seems right now that SO many are going through SO much! My heart, prayers, thoughts go out to ALL of you!

I was looking forward to today SO much! It was my first "Non Snow/Non Work Day!" (Well, if you create things for a living, or at least PART of your living, you kind of laugh when people say, "Are you Off today, or working?" ) I don't take many "days off "anymore,,,,I AM either working on stuff for Shows/Customers/Stores OR I'm working at Joyworks!All of which I LOVE, but in general keeps me hoppin'! So, Shell, are you "Working today?"

Today I'd say NO. Nadda. Zip. I had "this" a couple of weeks ago and it went away,,,,didn't get sick. But today, once again I woke up with an ear ache, a swollen gland that hurt and a headache when I tried to look up. Weird. Sinus? Allergies? Or fighting a bug,,,,,dunno. But I laid low today, read a bit,,,,,okay, quite a LOT and waited to feel better,,,,Chicken Soup? Check! Fluids? Check? And rest. Well, I hope I've knocked it out of the proverbial Ball Park once again, as I've known several friends and co-workers that didn't! Anywhoo,,,,The Snow is gone and I managed to deliver a Basket and a little "somethin' somethin' to my dear friend and Co-Worker Penny's porch today!

I'd been working on some Valentine projects and had a bunch of Materials sitting around,,,,,,,and thought I'd make her something with a neutral themed "something." I found this handmade paper I had,,, Some ribbons and vintage lace,,,,,,and well, I figured any "Francophile" would appreciate a "Frozen Charlotte" in the mix,,,,and this is what I came up with. (Penny Girl, You'll have to tell "Mr. Bill" That the broken arms/legs are part of the charm,,,,,,otherwise he'll think I gave you something BROKEN!)

One of the BEST things I love about my life right now, is that I have friends of ALL ages. Of course I have my Joyworks co-worker's and consider them all friends,,,,,,,some older and some younger than me. I feel blessed that my "Penny Girl" is one of those friends and co-workers that has entered my life. She and her "Hubbs" Bill, have helped me with Shows and Events, and I hope I was a good friend, back when Bill was having health issues. I love and care for them both more than I can say. Their friendships mean the world to me!

And as I type this? I'm waiting for a knock on the door from one of my newer and younger friends, Kelly. She moved in -two doors down from me recently. We walk dogs together. A Golden retreiver(My Kodi) my Black lab, Shadow and her "Jessi Girl",,,an aged and OH so SWEET Chocolate Lab!,,,,,,,,But more than that, we talk about work, life, decorating, dogs and "stuff." She's in her late 20's,,,,,somewhere in age between my two boys, and now? I can't imagine my life without her! Truly.

Now, I've got to sign out and call my dear little Friend Helen (92) who has been somewhat "snowbound" and set a time tomorrow, to get HER out and about once again! (She fell during the snow/ice even after I told her NOT to go out and "clean up" after her Pom....Mikey. ) She's okay, but sore,,,,,whaddya gonna do?

Blessing to friends, near and far! We can ALL learn a thing or two from our younger OR older Friends!

Collector's Choice Restaurant's Deck Today...........

"Storm Watch 2012!"

Okay Really? Enough already! I must have 14 inches of Snow some places in my yard! This is day,,,,,errrr, lemme see,,,Day 6 of Snow here! And we live in Western Washington, NOT Minnesota! (I heard it was actually quite NICE today in Minnesota, thanks to one of my FB friends!)

I only made it out today because I was traveling with my son and his girlfriend in the 4x4. This may be a record if not CLOSE and it's still coming down!

We managed to get out for a BIT today, get a few "Provisions"-fire logs for me,,,,,the power's gone out a couple of times and we had breakfast at Collector's Choice-one of my "Fav's" where I ran into my Joyworks co-worker Kim and her Hubbs, escaping their house-no power. I had to go out on their deck and take a quick pic,,,,(No doggie tracks all over the Snow, like at my house!)

I worked on a few projects while snowed in, and did a LOT more cooking than I generally do,,,,,,Including some stew and some Chicken Pot Pies,,,,,,,,,most for the freezer, but some for right now. I also had fun making this "Faux Cake." I THINK it was better than making a REAL one that I may just have devoured,,,,,,,,,,,

Okay, first of all, you need to know that we do not really DO Snow in the Pacific Northwest........Near Seattle, we get a "teaser" now and then, really it's rare, WET and when we get it--- Commerce comes to a stop unless you're a Grocer or a Tire Store..... And, if you watch/listen to the National News, Seattle got a TEASE,,,,a dusting--- which pretty much slows or stops everything,,,,And those of us up here in little Snohomish? We've got/had Major "stuff to deal with! That said,,,,,,,,,whether or not you're local? We could ALL use a little "Fairy Godmother" right now!Here ya go,,,,,,and scroll down for my latest Giveaway!

Can you even STAND how cute she is? I found "her" in an Antique shop in a "bin" missing her arms,,,,,and half of her feathers,,,,,,,,butcha know? She had potential! So- I picked her up for a couple of bucks, gave her new arms, Splendid German Pink Foil Dresden Wings,,,,,,,and a "new Home!"

I made her a "Wand," and surrounded her with Vintage Mushrooms/flowers atop a box covered in Vintage wallpapers/trims. I had SO much fun "reviving her!"

Since I still had this chunk of Vintage wallpaper out, I covered the top of a LITTLE heart shaped box and embellished it.......It'll hold about ONE truffle,,,,,,,but it was fun to make in this colorway..........

Mostly neutrals, but as you can see, bits of vibrant Pink/soft pink and touches of Aqua. It only measures about 6"x6" but would be fun to hang on a cabinet/door or to include in a "romantic vignette."

It was funny, because right after I started shooting images of these projects, I got a couple of copies of the Romantic Country Magazine from Harris Publications,,,,,,,or Mary Forsell, the Publisher of said magazine......And I looked at the Colorway THEY had on the Cover and what I'd been working on today,,,,,,,,and loving as of late,,,,,,,,,,

I started my Blog several months after my co-worker Jana started one for our store, Joyworks........This was a time in MY life (shortly after my mother had passed away and my youngest son was a Marine serving in Iraq) when I started to Make "STUFF."

(If you go to my sidebar and read my profile, you'll see that basically, I was asked to make A Wedding Cake Topper for a couple I knew and loved,,,,,,,and then, "it--the rest of IT, all has grown from there~!

I KID You NOT! THIS was a blog picture,,,,,,,,,I posted,,,,,,whenI I first started, and asked Blog friends to "tip their heads" to view it.......I was "So green, so, uneducated, that I actually Posted this image and asked my Handfull of followers to peruse this Image! (Circa 6/19/2009)

And yet? I still had some followers,,,,,supporters! A handful, some co-workers from Joyworks, some blessed souls that managed to stumble onto my blog and,,,,,,,,God Bless them,,,,,,,Follow!

Karen Valentine, of "My Desert Cottage" http://mydesertcottage.blogspot.com/ fame, came into my blog life about a year later.-she'd been "following" me,,,,,,,,,,,and THEN-She set up my blog Format........with all the "horns and Whistles",,,,,,,,God bless Karen! And Then, a year or so ago? I asked my Dearest, nearest, Blogger friend EVER,,,, to create a Header,,,,,that reflected ME,,,,,,,,,And my dear Lulu Kellogg, created the most Fantastic/personal Header I could have wanted! ( I want a BIT "Marie," a BIT of pink and green, a Bird, something French and Voila! Lulu made it happen!)http://Coastalsistersnews.blogspot.com

The "heads up"/ article in Romantic Country Magazine is Fantistic! Delightful, and I feel truly blessed to be acknowledged. But, as stated, I cannot imagine OR accept this feature, without giving a "Thank You" and a heads up for ALL of those that have helped me , followed Me, in the last several years!

I had a delightful Friday! I spent the day with my wonderful sister-in-law Mary,,,,,,,whom I love to pieces! I may be "beating a dead horse" or redundant when I mention that she's been my sister in law since I was 9! She helps me AT shows, (Ruffles and Rust, ie.) Goes to shows with me, and sometimes, we go Junkin'/Antiquing and Shopping like we did today!

We headed into North Seattle and stopped by "Maxine's" Floral! Ackkk,,,,,,this has been on my "bucket list" of shopping for quite a while.........I didn't take photos inside,,,,,,,because Maxine was SO busy with orders we only had a brief chat and I'd never take pics without permission. I wanted to MOVE IN! Her store contains everything I love! Whimsey, fantastic Color,,,,,flowers-real and spectacular paper/birds and bling! Here's a quick shot of the exterior

My photo doesn't do it justice, but if YOU saw this on the OUTSIDE,,,,,wouldn't you want to go INSIDE??? And trust me, it just gets better!

Sis in law Mary and I did some junking,,,,,,,and I'll share my "finds" in the next couple of days! (I have to get rid of all the Cra*,,,,,,,,err STUFF first on my dining room table to take the pics.) But I did manage to take One final photo today of ...........

One of my "Mannies/heads/dress forms." This one is Marilyn -a partial dress form from the 60's, or 70's. She's "sporting" a crown I made out of some of the "Old Lady Pink" Wallpaper. ....

Old Lady Pink and Goin' Junkin' Tomorrow!

Two of the things I love most in the world,,,,,,are "Old Lady Pink" and goin' Junkin'!

I always Called it "Coral" or "Warm Pink",,,,But my friend Deb Bock informed me one day when we were out Junking and I kept gravitating towards it,,,,,,"It's Old Lady Pink!!" You know? That shade of pink satin your Aunt Lila had in her boudoir. I LOVE IT! Ackkk! My bedroom walls are this color,,,,,,and it lends itself well to this old house! Time for a renewed paint job, but I'll do the same color!

I recently bought a couple yards from Hannah's Treasure's (She's got an awesome Etsy Site) And had BIG fun playing with a few chunks of it!

Low On Birthday Hats! Eeek,,,,,,,,Love this shade of Pink with Turquoise and Creme.......

This was a fun Crepe Fringe to make,,,,(I found this "Old Lady Pink" and a SOFT turquoise Crepe at my local dollar store,,,,,all soft and faded in a Close-out Bin,,,,,,oh yeah and 4 rolls for a $1.00~ I bought ALL they had of both!)

Tomorrow? I'm looking forward to some LONG awaited Junkin' once again! My Sister-in-Law Mary is headed over from the Penninsula and we're headed to Seattle to check out some new stops! Can't wait!

Okay, I'll admit, I am NOT the most Practical person in the World....for that matter probably not the most practical person on my BLOCK,,,,,,,So,,,,instead of focusing on practical matters today,,,I glued/glittered/cut and pasted......Escape mechanism? Oh YEAH! So here's ONE finished project,,,,,,read on if you'd like the image!

I worked on some other projects today,,,,,,but I'd found this Awesome/unusual Monochromatic Valentine and decided it would lend itself nicely nesting "inside" one of my Natural Moss heart wreaths. It could have been a "hanger" all on it's own, but I decided to put it atop a box,,,,,,covered w/ Sheet Music.

I added a "titch" of Ribbons and Vintage Lace,,,,,and a Gold Dresen heart. And Look at those cute little Cherubs!

One banging the door knocker, the other with a message/verse........Too fun!

I've got 3 fabulous pets to comfort me now. My "other" Tuxedo kitty aka "Tuxie," my "Golden" Kodi,,,aka "Codeman" and Shadow. But it's awfully quiet around here without the "Old Queen."

SO? My Golden Retriever Kodi? Registered purebred- (don't get fooled by that sweet face!),,,,,,Aka,,,,,and Alias Name "Kodiak",,,,,Chased my old lady cat under my computer desk.............

He managed to destroy the USB cable from my Keyboard to the mainframe of my computer this week..........Chasing the,,old lady/senile kitty Holly ....

So? Shell went out and bought a NEW Laptop Computer........I know, this old Relic that takes me,,,I kid you NOT-- Hours to boot up ( Yeah, well, the provider isn't the fastest in the Internet the world either!),,,,,,,, (tonight is case in point) But I haven't even taken the new one out of the box yet........

I got a NEW keyboard and a NEW USB connection for the OLD computer,,,,,,,,,,So,,,,,,,,,Do I pull the plug on "Old Betsey" or let her "serve out her time?"

The older I get, and also after spending some time with family in Europe several years ago (Germany/France/Ireland/Holland) ...Where everything is saved/reused/recycled,,,,it honestly make me ill how "we," American's live in such a disposable society. It's been several years now, since I made that journey,,,,,,,,But I learned a LOT from my Family and the Euro Culture. "Re-use, Re-Condition, Recycle!"

Our Culture?,, our Country HAS been wasteful. I think one of the lessons we've learned from these hard economic times is to reconsider,,,,,,,WHAT we have,,,,,what we use and how we can RE-use. The poor economy has created, innovation, re-creation and imagination! I Like that!

So?? Do I take that new laptop out of the box

Or, take it BACK to the store,,,,,,,until old "Betsey" goes to her great "reward?" She's been a Great little Computer,,,,,albeit, slow!

Hope you had a GREAT weekend! I've been thinking/praying a LOT about friends AND family of friends, who have major health issues right now,,,you are ALL in my thoughts and prayers! And for My "Holly Kitty," who is old and senile and weighs no more than a feather duster these days........But still manages to purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Okay, So? This is like the WORST TEASE EVER! No,,,,not for You guys, but for Me!

My Sister in Law Mary called me Thursday evening to say I'd been Published in Romantic Country.......She had her (subscription) copy in her hot little hands in HER home,,,,,Like a Bazillion Miles away, over on the Penninsula (Vampire Country). You CAN "get there from here, but it's a half a day's drive away.......

Okay, SO? I kind of knew it MIGHT happen, I'd had several Emails back and forth with the Publisher,,,,Submitted Photos,,,, but figured I wouldn't believe it, till I saw it in Print, or at least got a confirmation from the Editor, Mary........(And, No My Sister in Law is NOT the Editor-New York City and Port Angeles are WORLDS apart!)

So Okay Today? Well, actually just minutes ago, I log on and There on my Blog List is my dear friend Anne Lorys from Fiona and Twig http://fionaandtwig.blogspot.com/ ??? And Annies Posted:
A:) She's in it too with some awesome Mannie Photos
B:) She's got a throat infection and "Mr. Twig" picked up not only her MEDS, but the LATEST copy already, of Romantic Country ON THE MAGAZINE STAND!!!

Not on the Stands yet in Washington State! Ackkk! But at LEAST I could copy the Cover Image from Annie's Blog and post! And here is the Other A-mazing and exciting part!

Okay, if you've been a long time follower, reader, OR just Check out the Blogs I follow,,,,,,You'll see my Workplace,,,okay, really? My "Second Home" and my "Extended Family" and you KNOW about Joyworks!http://joyworks-shopgirl.blogspot.com/ Jana, My Bosses daughter (friend and co-worker) started the Joyworks Blog about "our" store several months before I ever started blogging. In fact, she inspired me to create my own Blog.

(Quick Sidebar here and if you STILL don't have your OWN blog, consider THIS! I used to post the WORST Photos,,sometimes they'd even go "on" Sideways" and I'd ask my "followers" to turn the heads or use their imaginations......LOL. It took me a while to learn better editing and I STILL learn Camera skills and other features from blog friends!......So YOU can do it too!)

Well, this Fall, Jana got an email First ,from Mary at Romantic Country........and when she told me "We" the store, might get published, we screeched and did a "high five"laughed and smiled! Then, a couple of weeks later, I got an email from Mary. It seemed TOO Good to be true that there was the potential that we'd both be published. And frankly, I think we held our collective breaths after submitting images and Emails, to see, Who/What would get Published.

Long story short,,,,,,,,as previously mentioned, I got published,,,,,,and Joyworks did too! Ackkk!
I just Can't WAIT to see it in Print! Darn it Annie, (Ms. Fiona) I'd fly down to Texas tomorrow and pick one off YOUR newstand if I didn't have to work! But I cannot think of ANYONE I'd rather be "in Print with" than you, my Joywork family and oh Yeah! I just LOVE "Castle's in the Air!" Whom apparently I "Share" a page with! My NEXT dream, would to be to hold a Class there!

I Hope you're all winding down and getting ready to just Enjoy your Christmas! My house is as decorated as it's going to get this year....Trust me,,,,,,if I'd had that week I "lost" there would be more,,,,,but I'm enjoying my decor this year......a bit different.....and in MANY ways,,,a BIT more Special! (See if you notice a trend of sorts....)

Glimpses of My Mantle.....Lots of Vintage,,,,,,Houses, Deer, Etc........You might notice the color scheme is somewhat Non-traditional........lots of Pastels......Pinks/Peaches/Aquas..........This pair of Deer was a gift from my Friend Sherry at the Ruffles and Rust Show,,,,,She just "thought they looked like something I'd like....She didn't even KNOW that I've collected Deer for years!

I bought this fun, Vintage Christmas Candelabra from Deb Bock, of "Garden Party" Fame several years ago.....Love it!

This little Angel is from my Childhood. I LOVE her So! Maybe the FIRST of my vast Angel and Cherub Collection. My Mom and I used to go to Fredrick and Nelson's (aka Marshall Field's) every Holiday season when I was growing up and pick up a few Special ornaments from Germany......or in THIS case, (Circa 1960's....from Japan)

Treetop "Pixie" purchased from Debi Burton at Second Saturdayz Vintage Market Venue.

Okay, so as this whole pastel pallette came to mind this year, I had NO idea what I'd TOP my tree with.......And THEN? I found this whimsical/vintage Pixie from my friend Debi Burton.......Too perfect!

If you look a bit off to the right of my "Heralding Angel", you see the wonderful ornament My blog Friend Lynn Stevens from Trash to Treasure Art sent me! It's perfect on this tree of Angels, birds and Pastels! Thanks again Lynn!

I leave a few "Bits and Bobs" on my Dining room Chandelier all year long.......But I added a bit more "Bling" for the Holidays.........This Chandelier was a great find, several years ago, when I was in a Thrift Shop in France........I paid $37 Euro for it,,,,,Well, then some Shipping, and okay, shades,,,,,and re-wiring for US currents..........But I've loved it since the day I bought it~ Perfect size for my little dining area!

And finally,,,,,,,,,here's a Glorius Silver Plate Tray I bought at Annies! (Annies on First, Snohomish, WA)

Ummm,,, It's a bit Full of Silver Balls, Chains and the likes and will be my dining room centerpiece this year.

Well, this "holiday tour" is a BIT brief this year! Chalk it up to one week this month, down for the count sick and a couple of Shows besides!! But it was fun to switch up/out my decor with some new colors! And, even MORE fun in review to see all the "Contributions" from Friends.

Again, I can NOT emphasize enough, how important my Friends are to me with my Family being SO small and scattered! I wish you ALL the Best this Christmas and look forward to the New Year ahead, with all of you in my life!

Holiday Traditions and Recipes!

We've all got em! Those family traditions that get carried out Year in and Year out.........They can be Spritually guided..... (Midnight Mass, Christmas Morning Service), Nostalgically guided,,,,,,,a Movie, a Song, a repetitive or expected gift..........

Here's a couple of Mine. I'd LOVE to hear what YOU'VE Got!

One ongoing tradition in my household, although my "boys" are now 26 and 30 ,,,,,,,is the annual "Pez" dispenser.

My Boys,,,,or now young Men, get a Pez dispenser from "mom"me/ every year............And we also have an annual tradition of making/decorating Sugar Cookies. Then, at the main Christmas meal, there are my long standing, expected Holiday Potatoes. I think the rest of the Activities could fall by the wayside,,,,,,but I'd best prepare (or in recent years get HELP learning and preparing) My Potatoes. They get devoured during a Holiday meal (Both Easter AND Christmas) but almost as importantly sent "off" do be eaten later..........

So,,,,,,,first off,,,,,here's my Recipe............I hope you Enjoy or save it for an upcoming Fete!

I shared it this eve with my friend Maggie of "Just Between You and Me" fame.......and it kind of created this Avalanche of Menues/ and Traditions.............So, here ya go! If it keeps my "boys" coming home for Holidays, then I guess it's worthy of being shared!

"Shell's 'Family' Holiday Potatoes"

2pkgs "Country Style" Hashbrowns,,,,,(Not the Shredded for mine, but the Cubed.)
One Large or 2 smaller Onions/diced
About 4-5 large Fresh cloves of Garlic/Minced
2 Pints of Sour Creme ( I usually do ONE Reg and the Second "Light" HA! Not fat free though---never never,,,,,,this is Holiday "eats" remember?)

Parsely,,,,about 2 Tablespoons Fresh (preferred) or Dried.
1 1/2 tsp Course Ground Sea Salt,,,,and 1 teaspoon Fresh ground Pepper.

Enough Shredded Cheddar Cheese to liberally Cover the Top of dish/dishe(s).

Prep:
In a Medium sized bowl, mix diced onions/sour creme/herbs and spices.Set aside.

Allow Hashbrowns to thaw. Then Throw in a LARGE Mixing bowl, add the sour creme mixture above.

Mix by Hand (brrrrrrrr, but works) or with a large heavy Spoon completely.

Firmly Press mixture into a Greased/buttered Baking dish,,,,,,Usually about a 15x10,,,or you can use a couple of them. (Potato Mixture should be about 3 inches thick, per baking dish and then cover each dish liberally with grated Cheddar Cheese.) I usually have to make a few smaller ones and send home with my boys. Again, I stress, each Potatoe Mixture/dish, needs to be covered liberally with grated Cheese.........

Bake in a 350 degree oven for appx 20-30 Minutes. When Cheese STARTS to brown,,,,,Create a "Tent" ^ of Foil......(Pitched above Cheese so it doesn't Stick) and cook for another 30 minutes)

Again, this is GREAT with Ham! Or a Beef Roast! And great to make ahead!

For a couple of years, I put up a stocking for my Husband Karl, who ironically was a Pilot, and yet died in a Car Accident on his way HOME from Flying. He was a a GREAT Step dad to my boys,,,,,,,but we'd all write messages when they were little,,,about what they'd like to "say" and put them in "Karls" stocking. " I miss your hugs," I miss doing "loopedy loops in the plane" and not letting mom know." They were funny/endearing and "from the heart messages" to their step dad.

I'm thinkin' Maybe this year,,,,,,although she's been "gone" now for several, it would be fun,,,,,,,and yes, maybe even Funny now,,,,to Put up a stocking for my Mom,,,,,,and have the Boys write a message. They both LOVED their Grandma So,,,,,,,Let's Share an Antic, a laugh, a smile and remember!

Okay,,,,Put a fork in ME,,,,,I'm Done! But I'd SO love to hear YOUR traditions/your Meals/Desserts, Movies/ Music,,,,,,,,The Traditional and the "Not so Much!" Pls Share with the "rest" of us!

(I love that this can be prepared a day ahead of time, in fact I think it's better that way,,cover in Plastic Wrap and/or Tin Foil) and store in the Fridge.)

I finally felt like "going out today",,,,,,,and one thing lead to another. I went here/ended up there/ talked to her/ bought from Them/Swapped with her,,,,,Ended up finally buying dog toys and treats at the Local Co-op and came home and booked TWO events for January on and into my brand Spankin' new " Tracktor Calendar from the Co-op.....Okay,,,Where are the Studly Farmer dudes that drive the Tractors? I just had to ask.......But I digress.....Here's what I penned in for 2012!..........

First off,,,,,If you are Local, contact me ASAP, if you'd like to take part in this Event. I've talked about it for a couple of years, and finally having it "going!" It's a "Bring your un-used Christmas Stuff" and Swap it for something else,,,,Party. I'm having it here in Snohomish at Collector's Choice restraunt, ........January 18th, from 6:00pm-8:00pm. If you are Local,,,,,you bring the Christmas "Cast-offs"---Colors you don't use, the Snowmen that don't fit your Theme,,,,,,,etc and we'll do a "swap" game and go home with something else.

If you're NOT local, feel free to Steal this idea ........If you don't have a "Local Group" perhaps you can do it through your Blog friends! I'd love to hear what you come up with! Have Fun with it!

And,,,,,,I'll be instructing a Valentine Themed Class, in Snohomish on January 25th from 5:00-7:00. The class will be open to Adults and Children over 5 years of age. All supplies will be included,age appropriate, and a list of "optional supplies" will be provided. There will also be Vintage Papers/Materials available from me, and NEW products for purchase from Scrapville.

This Class is limited to 25, adults and/or Children. Cost per adult is $20. Children and Teens $10. There will be basic instructions and techniques for Children,,,,and advanced techniques for Teens and Adults. (Including "Sewing Paper," Fringing, Paper flowers, etc.) We'll also enjoy Cupcakes and Tea!

I KNOW this is early,,,,,,We've all got a week till Christmas.....But I had to book these Events Early, to save the dates!

Hope you're enjoying decorating/wrapping and finding special gifts for those you love! I had fun buying the Doggies some special toys today! Shhhhhh! They don't get them until Christmas!

On Monday, I'm sending out some packages and cards, long overdue. I had the BEST of intentions, and then I got Sick, so,,,,,they may be a BIT late. That doesn't mean I love you less,,,,it just means I've been ill, and trying to play Catch up! Hoping they're just as fun after Christmas,,,,,,,,it just extends the Holidays a Bit more!

"Friends are the Family we Choose!"

Honestly? This is a tough time of year for me,,,,because my bio family has become SO Small,,,,,,,and always scattered! My Folks are gone, I have ONE Auntie left, and truly? At times it is hard to talk to her, because she's the "last one" and was my Mom's Sis,,,,,and I miss my Mom So......it hurts!

I don't know WHO stated, "Friends are the Family that we Choose",,,But it Truly resonates with me deeply. I have always been blessed to have friends from different "walks of life," different places,,,,but never more so than when I started to Blog and make friends! If you've been blogging for a while,,,,,the same addage holds true,,,,,,You don't Always get to talk/write or check up on your blog friends,,,,,But you are "There" for them emotionally and in turn, they are "There" for you!

I have a major list,,,,,,as long as my arm of Blogger friends that I have come to know and love. And This year? Many of them are dealing with major issues....Loss, grief, health issues themselves or those of spouses. Economic issues (I've had some of my own) and business decisions. .......These are tough times for many.

Today,,,and truly this is Small "Potatoes" in the scheme of things, but I have felt like "Doggy Do-do" for about 4 days with this headcold/flu? .....And Then? I got a little package from my Blog friend "Lynn Stevens.".....No, SHE is not "Small Potatoes!" Lynn is the "Bestest!" (Nationally Published for her Cards/Tags and Paper crafts! http://TrashtoTreasuresArts.blogspot.com)
And Lynn,,,,,God Bless her, sent me a package that she Knew I would love! A couple of her handcrafted treasures,,,and then some "Crafty items" ( She knows me well) to use in my Own projects!

PS.........I cannot begin to say how much my life has Changed by getting to know some of you! I don't want to sound like an Awards Ceremony, but truly, I cannot imagine my life without Lulu, Lynn, Annie,Suz, Deb, Debra, Kris, Lisa, Vicki,Connie, Rosemarie, Amy, Elizabeth, and truly the list goes ON,,,,,,and ON!

I'll take some solace in knowing that the Majority of my blog friends can't complete a whole list either! But we ALL consider you part of our families. Worry when you're sick, when your famliy is suffering.

Whimsical Whites,,,,,an Intro

As previously Mentioned, I "did" my first Second Saturdayz Show in Seattle on Saturday. I'd done shows with a FEW of the Vendors, but there were new Vendors (to me) that were Fantastic!

Yesterday, among sneezing/dripping and posting, I visited my Second Saturdayz booth neighbors blog from "Whimsical Whites."

These two Sisters at Whimsical Whites.. put the "A" in amazing! They're booth, which they "do" at the Second Saturdayz Event, every month was amazing this weekend,,,,,Truly? I wanted ALL their Stuff! Kathy and Kris have quite the "eyes." And not only do they "do Whimsey, Vintage and extrodinairy Antiques,,,,They "do" flowers! Shut UP! And,,,,,,,,Drumroll here,,,,,They have a Shop in Kent, WA! I've yet to visit, but if you check out their Blog,,,,You'll get a "Taste!"

Kathy and Kris don't "do' Facebook. (As a woman that doesn't have a Cellphone I can SO relate to this concept.) But they DO have a Blog,,,,And when I checked it out yesterday,,,,,They had 12 Followers! 12? Ackkkkkk! You need to SEE their Stuff, their creative Talents,,,,,the arrangements,,,,,and You NEED to Follow their Creative Site!

I'm a firm believer in, "Something's Happen for a reason!" Well, I'd say, I was meant to meet Kathy and Kris,,,,see how talented they are and Share it! Follow their blog and see what fabulous things they're up to!

Final Post.....A few More Joyworks Christmas Party photos

So, Every year, at our Christmas Party, we play "The Dice Game." We all bring a present, and once they've been opened, we set a timer, pass the dice around,,,,,,and if you get "doubles" you can "steal/switch" gifts. Sometimes we are "naughty" and sometimes we are "nice." Until the timer goes off, you don't know what you're going to end up with!

This embossed sweatshirt has gone around for years. If you get it, you embellish a bit more and someone gets it the next year! Sandi got it this year,,,,,,from Jana, but she also got a lovely mirror, I KNOW she was dyin' for!

Rita got the "Grand Prize" of sorts from Clarice! Two Days and an Ovenite Stay for two at the Beach house! Score!

Jana kept My little "Beachy" Snowman......

Then we all got our fun "Goodie Bags" from Clarice,,,,,She thinks up the most creative "themes" each year........of course this year,,,,,it was "Just Beachy!"

Hi! Thanks for Stopping by! It's Me,,,,Shell. This is a Re-introduction of sorts, because I got a comment on my last Blog post, that I wasn't fulfilling my obligations. I don't blame her! I promised giveaways, and I have yet to fulfill them! That is not at ALL what I intended............

Again, it's just me. Moi. I don't have anyone to fall back on.....4 animals, a "needy 92 YO 'friend', Two old houses (0ne, as of late, I need to clean up and "Spruce Up" for a much needed tennant, because that is a BIG chunk of my income),,and I'm in the Hole with my son's former roommate.........

Today? I set up for Second Saturdayz in Seattle........And my little booth isn't up to Par with some of the "heavy hitters/long timers," But I'm THERE! And, SO excited about it!

Starts at 8:00am for Early Birds, and Ends at 3:00pm held at Warren Magnuson Park ( 7400 Sand Pt. Way NE, Seattle, WA)

I "owe' people emails, phone calls,and yes, giveaways. But really? I "owe" my friend Jodene who has had her Lymphoma re-occur, I "owe" my blog friend Lulu who just had her appendinx removed, I "owe my Blog friends, or Customers from Joyworks dealing with Cancer themselves, or their spouses. ..

I "Owe" a lot of you, a lot of things-Emotionally or at times Physically,,,,,,,You are ALL, always in my heart, on my mind and in my Prayers! I'm sorry, truly, if I can't "be" there all the time, in all the ways for people that I love and care about!

Hope you all had a GREAT weekend! We were hoppin' at Joyworks! Lots of Clothing, scarves, decorations and ornaments flying out the door! Today was an especially pretty Winter day, the Sun was out most of the day, which brought a lot of people to our little Historic town.

I've got a Super busy week ahead too......Holiday Hair show at Tom Walker's Hair Salon, on Tuesday Eve , 4:00pm-7:00pm. (Pilchuck Landing, here in Snohomish.) I participated in this last year, and it was really fun! All the stylists take part in giving clients and visitors a "Holiday-'Do'" idea.....They'll put you in a chair and show you a fun thing or two!

They'll be a couple of "us Vendors/Artists" there too-including my Friend and Artist Jody Carlson Cain......and I'll have "Hair Bling"-clips/headbands, etc. and few other hand crafted items. Drawings/Gift Packs and Snacks!

Then,,,,,,,Next Saturday? You can find me at the Fantabulous "Second Saturdayz" Market Event in Seattle! I'm really excited to take part in the show, for SO many reasons! I've come to know and love many of the Vendors that take part in this Monthly Show. Wowza! These guys are PRO's! Ladies and Gentleman, THIS is the BIG leagues and I'm honored to take part in the December Venue! "I'm not Worthy!" (What movie was that from?)

But truly I'm honored. If you're in the Greater Seattle Area, this event is held at Warren Magnuson Park
(7400 Sand Point Way, NE, Seattle, WA.) Or as I know it from my Childhood the old Sand Point Naval Station. Early Birds starts at 8:00am and the Event runs till 3:00PM. Come on by and "Get your Jingle on!"

I spent a lot of time at that Navy base as a kid. My dad was a retired Naval Officer and we'd go to the "Commissary and the Post Exchange." It was kind of like the "Costco" of sorts, for those with Military Bennies in the 60's and 70's....I bought my FIRST cosmetics (Elizabeth Arden) on the base......as well as some of my FAV clothes (oh my Stars I am so Dating myself...."Bobbie Brooks" Fashions)

I graduated a 17 and my "Bennies" lasted till I was 21, so I got my first set of dishes there too. Mikasa....I was in heaven! They were SO cute in my first apartment.

(Psssssssst, I say to myself...."Okay Shell", once again you have started on ONE topic (upcoming Events) and managed to slide into nostalgic oblivion,,,,,Mikasa Dishes (but pssssst......they were really really cute,,,,,,octagon plates/cups with pink and green roses on ivory porcelain) It's the ADD in me.) But they are happy memories!

I'm hoping to create some NEW happy memories at this upcoming venue! Great Venue, fun, talented Vendor friends, Holiday Spirit! Sounds pretty good!

Have a Great new week! And say a little prayer that Shell stays on "task" and yet manages to wedge a few days of Creating in there!

My love to you all,,,,,,This is a hard time of year for SO many reasons....Pressure/deadlines/obligations, memories. Me? I'm looking for the Spirit of the Season in little things. A Thank you, a Hug, a Smile, and yes, a Prayer or two. It's not about material things. The latest gadget, the designer purse, jewels etc.

4 years later.........

Sorry, this is a bit Hazy picture of my Mom that I scanned several years back. In this pic, several year before I was born, she was living in San Fran, CA.

Tomorrow, she will have been gone 4 years. WOW,,,,4 years? How did that happen? I still miss her everyday. She was my "bestest." She had me late in life, especially for the 50's. She was 40 when I was born.

I didn't have a "normal' Mom growing up. First, as stated she was waayyy older than my friend's moms. Although that took me a while to figure out. Okay and Then? There was the whole, "My mom's Family left Germany in 1929 thingy, because my Grandpa knew in his bones that there was going to be ANOTHER War.........So I learned all about becoming the "Proud American" and yet,,,,,,respecting my families' History

And Then? Growing up? Unlike most of my friends, my German/Dutch Mother "worked outside the home." That was kind of unusual in the 50's and 60's. She was an Administrator for the School District ( which allowed her to get home before I did), She was a business teacher,,,,(Shorthand/filing/typing) which again allowed her to be home before the bus arrived.) Later, she worked at the County Courthouse,,,,,,which enabled me to visit her on Lunch breaks and go ........Shopping! And then, she moved on and in her Mid-50's (My age now) got her Real Estate liscense. She did well with that, back in the Mid 70's when other's stuggled.

4 years later? Here I am. I'm never going to be my Mom. Those shoes are TOO big to fill. I look back at all she did, and all she was and it amazes me. You look at that career history above? You don't know half of it!
She made homemade whole wheat breads, canned Jams, made curtains, painted vacant houses, took care of pets, me, my brother, her step kids,,,,,,,and Frankly? I just get dizzy thinking about it all!

But,,,,,I hope, she's looking down and seeing .....No, I'm NOT her, I never Could be. But I'm pursining my creative endeavors,,,,,,,and it's exciting! And her two grandson's I gave birth to are doing Well! Last week, Thanksgiving? I had a LOT of thanks to give to Both of my boys! They are both happy and doing well.........What more can a MOM or a Grandmother Ask?

I can't Hug my mom anymore. I miss that so! And, whether you are near OR far........I can't hug YOU as often as I'd like to! Hug your mom for ME , next time you see her. If she's Gone, then I send you my thoughts and prayers........

I was TRULY blessed. I had the "Bestest" Mom Ever. I only hope that I can somehow, in someway, SHOW the impact she had on my life! Big HUGS! I miss you Mom!

I've got Publishing on my mind....Whaddya Got for 2012?

Those of you that know me,,,well at least a BIT, KNOW that I am all over the creative "Board." So? One of the projects I'm working on for 2012 is a Book featuring local Artists, Gardeners, Creations, Specialized Foods, "How To" from Photgraphers, etc. So? If you are Local,,,,,,and have SOME tip/some creation/some Frosting, or Photo tips,,,,,Jump on board! Let's create a Book of our talents/efforts endeavors!

I am SO blessed to know so Many local creative people,,,,,,Like my co-workers Jana, Kim and Jill at Joyworks,,,,,Heck even my Boss Clarice could tell you "How TO".....about a Bazillion things! (She started our store/her business with Dried Flowers and Dough Art Creations).......

I may "do" a turtorial on Crowns,etc.

So? I've been thinking, I truly want to publish a Book in 2012 of Artisan's, large AND small,,,,,But all in the Pacific Northwest area.........Washington,,,Oregon and Idaho.

I'd LOVE to do a publication eventually that features other Artists and Creative people I've gotten to know around the US.....But first? I'm concentrating on the Locals......If this is sucessful, then I will Certainly look elsewhere. And please don't think I don't admire your talents, or insights,,,,,,This is going to be a new endeavor for me......so we'll see!

Not so "Black Friday"!

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! As previously mentioned, mine was scheduled to be pretty "low-key," but very enjoyable nonetheless. Okay, Really? There was that ONE incident when I went to heat up the Turkey drippings on the stove top? And the pan exploded,,,,(hmmmm, I thought that Italian baking dish that I purchased could survive everything, short of a nuclear attack.....apparently NOT the case) But,,,,I managed to make a decent gravy at any rate!

So today?( I am SO not about "Black Friday!" After working at Nordstroms for 14 years,,,,I avoid Malls and Crowds like the Plague! At 10:00AM, my dear friend Deb Pate, one of my fantastic "Deb Friends" swung by and picked me up and we headed out to Monroe! No,,,,not to go to the BOX stores,,,,but to Visit M&M Antiques-always my FAVE Antique store, and a few other Antique Stores on Lewis Street (in Old Town Monroe) and stopped in to see my friend Julie,,,,,,at her darling Shop, "Glitter and Ivy."

I just LOVE Julie (Middle),,,,she's so talented, driven and sweet. Stop by her Cute little store, "Glitter and Ivy" on Lewis Street in "old town" Monroe, Wa. As luck would have it, her Folks were in town today from Birch Bay,,,,,,(up near the Canadian Border) and I got a chance to meet them.......Too cute!They were all headed to downtown Snohomish tonight for Family night..........

I just got home from taking the Dogs for a walk down on 1st street..........Oh Lordy! I don't attempt to do that often with lots of people around.....We stopped in Joyworks and managed to tangle up a friend of mine,,,,,Mark Henry amidst the leashes! Mark was a good sport about it,,,,,"we" got a few Pets and headed out!

I LOVE spending my Holidays in Small shops,,,,,and stores! Tomrrow is "Shop Small Business" Days,,,,,or something to that effect. I live it YEAR round, I hate the malls........and for the most part, the Box stores.....(Okay, admit to hitting Target a couple times a year, but THAT is IT!)..........

Come see us in Snohomish Tomorrow,,,,,,or support the Small business in YOUR community,,,,,,,,,Use 'em or Lose 'em! Now wouldn't you MUCH rather shop at stores where they recognize and appreciate you.......or you COULD just head to Walmart! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkk!

Giving Thanks!

Tomorrow, as we all know is Thanksgiving! ,,,,,,,,Associated with food, with family and/or friend and of course,,,,,the day BEFORE everyone starts their Holiday shopping frenzy!

I get to see both of my son's tomorrow. They were a Bit slow on the invite, but both will be here at LEAST for a while......

(Too funny, and I love this, both my handsome young men, last year with "Man hand's" making one of our family traditions-decorated sugar cookies, prior to Christmas.)

The rest of my family? Is scattered to the Winds. My Brother and Sister in law Mary (below) live the closest,,,,although they are over on the Washinton state Penninsula,,,,,,a half day's drive away!

Mary and Moi.......This summer prior to Farm Chicks in the Davenport Hotel

She's more of a Sister than a "Sister in Law." I loved her from the moment she started dating my brother. They're been married forever,,,,,,and I truly, TRULY cannot imagine my life without my Mary! I am SO thankful to have her in my life......(my Bro too,,,,,but he's quiet and somewhat elusive!)

And then I've got ALL my friends that I consider family...near and far,,,,,,,and that Truly includes all of YOU! My family is small,,,,,spread apart. Tomorrow,,,,I'll just have my one son Sean for Thanksgiving. That means the world, truly. And My younger son, will be here for the morning so we can catch up on his approaching degree, and life in general..........

I always wanted a HUGE family! Cousin's, in-law's, the likes. I wasn't blessed with THAT,,,,,,but I think I've been further blessed with friends than most!

Wherever you ARE, whatever you DO tomorrow,,,,,,I wish you a day filled with Thankfulness. With Charity, with Love and Appreciation!

Shew!!! Okay so,,,,,,if you've been around my blog lately? Things have been a bit busy/crazy! I delivered quite a bit of "Crafty" stuff to Joyworks today,,,,,,we're having our Holiday Open House tomorrow nite! Starts at 6:00pm Ackkk! Too fun, but how did it get "here" this SOON?

And this morning? I was going to make more "Hair stuff" and pins and necklaces,,,,, but when I went to see what Jana posted on the Joyworks site,,,which lead to Kelly Rae Roberts blog.....which lead to ......ACKKKKKKK! I can't even hardly stand it! A NEW kindred spirit Blog! "Magpie Ethel."

One of her pics, inspired me to use some Jello Molds I got from a garage sale,I'd been holding onto and trying to figure out what in the heck to DO with them...... So here ya go,,,My inspirational response from "Magpie Ethel."

Note: I do NOT "Copy" someone's Artistic endeavors. If you look at the "Magpie' blog,,,,,you'll notice she embellished a Mouse in her Jello mold. Other than the molds themselves, I used entirely different materials,,,,,however I DO think it is important to acknowledge an Artist that came up with the original "scheme of things!" I wouldn't have THOUGHT to do this without seeing what she had done......

I would like to think that IF you "model" or emulate one of MY ideas you would take a moment to give me credit for my creation (s). That's what we all SHOULD do as crafters and artisans.......So feel free,,,,to take my crafting ideas and use them as your own, but really? Give credit, where credit is due!

That said? I'm having a girls day tomorrow,,,,totally! They're all made with Vintage and high quality new materials.........

This one is assuredly a "statement piece!" a Bit larger.......but lends itself well to a Neutral wardrobe to give a holiday "Pop!" I don't wear a lot of Red myself, but I'd put this on a Black or Creme colored outfit.

A few New Necklaces............

I LOVE this colorway in beiges, celery greens, cremes and gold. Lots of "Vintage goodness" in this piece!

Personal "Staple" Colors for Moi.....Black, Creme and Silver........a few pearls, a touch of lace and a few Austrian Crystals for "bling."

Kitch to the Max.......Or why the birds kept me up!

So? If you caught yesterday's post, and even if you didn't- I feel like I've got a LOT going on right now. Frankly, I'd invite you in for a cup of Coffee or Cider and tell you all about it,,,,,but at present, you wouldn't find a surface other than the ONE "sacred" kitchen countertop that didn't have STUFF on it!

As formerly mentioned, my living/dining room WAS somewhat clutter free, although depending upon whom you ask, that too is open to debate.......Truly? I STARTED to make hair clips/ bands/ etc this morning,,,,,,But I kept thinkin' about these dang BIRDS,,,,,and the Sheet Music nest I made yesterday,,,,,,,and well, one thing lead to another,,,,,and before you know it, I'd scooped up my 1st hours work (Again, seeing Where in the World Matt was) and started on some "Bird Boxes,,,,,,,,,and a bit of other Kitch." Or, as my dear friend Deb Bock would say,,,,,"Mid-Century Modern."

I had fun,,,stepping out of the "Traditional" Christmas colorway and making these items! Some will be available at Joyworks, other's at the "SecondSaturdayz" Event in December in Seattle......

So THIS Vintage Bird (and it's sibling, got me thinking (around 2:00am) about doing a couple of other bird "boxes"......with nests and the likes..........

And, I'm all about the turquoise right now,,,,,,so This one got a "Crepe nest" instead.......

And, well, when I found these birds at some garage sale, or whatever, there were also 'mini" retro birds in the bag.....which ended up in "ornies".......

And Finally? Pink Tissue tree. Okay I'm comin' clean here! This "beast" is STILL not finished! HA! It sounded like a good idea at the time.......Using those darn "Martha Scissors..."cut some "fringe" but leave enough "solid' edge to wrap the tree. .....What a Pain in the backside! So, honestly the "tree" is about 3/4's done,,,,,,and tucked itself nicely behind my boxes to NOT show what Shell hasn't yet finished! Hey, "Foodie" photographers cheat all the time!

Tomorrow,,,,,,truly, I'm back to hair and neclace "stuff!" I got quite a few "roses" done today to hit the ground running tomorrow and finish product! (Okay, I'm ADD,,,,,,but for the MOST part it still all comes together in the end!

I'm blaiming "The Creative Fairies!" I had an agenda this morning, started out on track...and at somepoint, those DANG birds just called my name!

Oh Joy! (Also known as a Bird in the hand is worth 25Cents!) Monday's Stuff and an Artist's Serenity Prayer

Well, I don't know about the REST of you,,but with the time change this weekend? I was up at the crack of black! So, I grabbed some tools and supplies from my Studio (brrrrrr, cold down there!) and started up the glue gun.....

One bird, one box, a bit of sheet music lead to this......

I was playing around with those Martha fringe scissors while trying to figure out "Where in the World was Matt Lauer?" And thought maybe I could make kind of a "nest." ....

And well, what the heck was I going to put "said nest" on?

I glued sheet music around a small unfinished box.....added a crepe paper medallion and a bit of "frou frou"

Oh yeah,,,,,,,and the Bird? She came from a Vintage Cake Topper I found for a Qtr!

After the house warmed up a bit, I got busy making some paper stockings out of Cavalleni Papers. I LOVE their images! These little stockings are JUST big enough to hold a Gift Card..........

stickers from the 40's and 50's -they were fun to add to these!

Practically, I should probably work on a few more "paper" projects tomorrow, since it looks like Santa's little helper's blew confetti and paper bits all over my Studio..........but I've got a holiday hairshow coming up soon,,,,,,,so to pull out the ribbons/lace and the likes or NO? (Well the livingroom isn't looking TOO bad after I moved things down to the Studio this morning...... I COULD leave the paper mess down THERE,,,,,,and start a Whole new MESS upstairs!)

Boot Scootin' Christmas!

Working on these boots? Made me think of ALL the wonderful women I met at Silver Bella in Omaha last November! Most importantly "my Lulu." Ya'll would LOVE her if you haven't yet met her! And all the other GREAT and talented women I had the opportunity to meet..........It was amazing!

In my wildest dreams, I'd love to have an opportunity to meet all the wonderful women I've met in "Blogland." Each one has a Story.....We need a "Super Bella" or something like that,,,,,,,where we can ALL get together!

So,,,,a couple of months ago? I found these old spun-cotton heads (in a bag with some kind of creepy rubber ones) for a Buck, and I've been dying to use them! Add some foils from the dollar store, some vintage pipe cleaners and,,,,,,,here are the "Foil 'Goils'"!

Too fun to make! I've made bunnies and dolls before and I'm sure you know what I mean, that when you start working on them, they take on a life and personality of their own.......

These gals are KIND of like their Vintage cousins from Japan in the 50's and 60's-and although they all have wings, or at least a halo of sorts,,,,they're a bit more "glam!"

Blondes, redheads, brunettes,,,,,some a bit THICKER, some a bit more petite! All have Vintage "accessories." They're all glammed up for the Holidays at any rate! I think I'll keep One,,,,,,and sell the rest! Do you see a "Fave" and if so, what would you name her??

I was GOING to take pics last nite of the Thousands,,,,,okay not thousands but at least 600 or so Trick or Treaters,,,,and my camera wasn't charged. (Note to self, do NOT leave camera plugged into the puter!)

But yes, my Friend/Neighbor Kelly and I gave out Candy to the Masses.......you cannot even BELIEVE this little Historical (Hysterical ?) community on Halloween!

So Kelly? She's a Vegetarian........and so I attempted to duplicate a recipe that Deb Bock (Garden Party Blog Fame and dear friend) had up in Mt Vernon a couple 6 weeks ago or so......And Shut UP!

My soup turned out GREAT! So here's the dealy-0.

Vegetable Peanut Soup

Stuff you need:

Half a Large Onion/Diced

Olive Oil

3 cans Vegetable Broth

One bag Frozen Cauliflower (is that spelled right, because it sure looks wrong)

One can Garbanzo Beans (Or Chick peas, depending on where you live)

3/4 Cups Creamy Peanut Butter

One Bag Frozen Mixed Carrots, Peas and Corn

Sea Salt

Fresh Ground Pepper

Cumin

Red Crushed Peppers

Powdered Clove

(1/2 Cup Half and Half Optional)

Okay,,,,,,So,,,,Easy Peasy!

In a Large Soup Pot

Brown Diced, Onion in Olive Oil and a couple pinches of Sea Salt

When Browned, Pour in the Vegetable Stock/Cover

Bring to a Boil

Once Boiling, Add Cauliflower

Continue Boiling until Cauliflower becomes Soft enough to:

Use an Emersion Blendor/ Potato Masher or Wisk and break Cauliflower into small pieces.

( I used a large wisk, which worked just fine after cooking the Califlower about 6 minutes or so past the "normal" stove top cooking time.)

Add all Remaining Ingridents EXCEPT Frozen Mixed Veggies and Half and Half!

So:

Your adding....

Garbanzo Beans undrained

Peanut Butter

1/2 teaspon of Cumin

1/8 teaspon of Ground Clove

appx 1/4 Teaspoon of Crushed Red Pepper

(for starters, you can taste it after it simmers for a while and add more, if you'd like)

Simmer for about an hour.

(Taste and see if you want more Bite and add a bit more Crushed red pepper if desired.)

Increase Heat to Medium

Add Frozen Veggies and *Half and Half

Cook for about 20 Minutes and Serve.

* About the Half and Half,,,,,,I think next time I make this I'm going to leave it out. Truly, between the pureed Cauliflower and the peanut butter, it's pretty creamy as it is........

I served this with Corn Bread Muffins.

Not Really a Red and Green kinda Gal......

I LOVE making goodies and decorating for Christmas! But I don't " DO" too much in the traditional colorway. I love the neutrals, with bits of Silver and Golds. And I simply LOVE the pastels!

So again, when I saw the darling wreath in "Matthew Mead's" Holiday Mag,,,I had to make one,,,,or three......

I added a bit or turquoise tissue flecked with silver (From Caspari) And a chunk of thick pink satin ribbon bow.

Thought these might be fun to make in a "Beachy" theme too, with creme/turquoise and Shells.....Now if I could just find a place that sells the Styro wreaths at a decent price,,,,,,,T

When the "tough get's goin', " Create!

So Today? I made Bird Ornaments.......

And,,,,I think the words I used were appropro..........

"Believe" in Change......

"Rejoice"........

"Faith"........

My Joyworks "gang" gifted me with over $150 dollars in Craft Gift Cards for my Birthday! They were perfect gifts,,,,because well, we all need supplies,,,,,

I picked up Michael Mead's Holiday Magazine .....and let me tell you,,,,,it is FANTASTIC! The best idea magazine I've bought in a LONG time. (Shout out to Amy Power's whom I met last November at Silver Bella,,,,,she's got a 4 page spread in there too! YGG!)

Anyway, I just kind of used the Bird Template that they used for a Card and modified it into an Ornament.....

There are 100's of Ideas in the Magazine,,,,,some you could make "as is," or put YOUR own spin on it! "Traditional" items, as well as many NEW twists! I highly recommend this Issue! You'll go back to it again and again for inspiration!

Again, I cannot begin to say how blessed I feel by friends right now. I'm embarrased to say how many friends jumped to my rescue in SO many ways and I thank you ALL from the bottom of my heart. It means more than I can ever say......

I like to think I'm strong.....can handle it ALL myself. I guess the one thing I've learned as of late,,,,that I truly, am NOT all by myself. And I feel SO blessed! And yes, I'll get through all of "this" and once again, I'll grow stronger. I've survived Divorce, widowhood, 2 Tours of my son in Iraq. I've faced financial hardships before....I changed careers, returned to College late in life,,,,,,,and? I've cleaned up Cat puke!

I'm basically strong and some days I don't WANNA BE!

(Insert the "I Will Survive" song here!)

I was hurt, deceived and angry,,,,and yet now my heart overflows with gratitude and love. Thank you. I'm putting this all to rest and moving on. I've "flushed" the proverbial 'Pity Pot' and I'm looking towards the future! And I'm Excited,,,,,about Change, new projects, new goals.

( I have to share the "Pity Pot" reference with you........When I was widowed, back in 1994,,,I connected with a lot of more "mature" widows and widowers." One 80's something woman listened to my story and tears and told me, "It's OKAY to sit on the "Pity Pot" once in a while, as long as you remember to FLUSH when you're through!") Words to live by, I'm sure. We cry, rave, rant and then,,we just need to MOVE on!

Ohhhhhhh, SUCH Big hugs and Love to you all. I cannot believe the support! You are all the Bestest!

And oh yeah.... I haven't given one in a while,,,,You get A big old noisey "Bus" on the Cheek!

I just have to say, I've never felt more loved, cared for in my life!

I'm going to be okay....at least for a while. I can get into retirement accounts.......an although I'll be Taxed/penalized.....I can restore funds to live/operate on. I cannot even BEGIN to mention friends that called or emailed me with financial help. I'm overwhelmed. And,,,I'm truly, truly blessed!

Several friends offered Monies,,,,,several offered to "Push" orders for custom goods.......Several just offered emotional help and suggestions.

Again, I'm going to be "OK." I've made some plans. I'm excited about them. First of all, I'm going to move into my "little Back Cottage." I'll fix it up! Then I'll rent out my larger home........AND,,,,,,,,have a NEW studio built above my existing garage. With TONS of natural light! ........It'll take some time,,,,and monies, but, I truly "feel" like I need to continue on this "Artistic" dream.

I'll downsize,,,,,but it'll be worth it. I'll keep ya'll posted. Again,,,,,,thanks for the messages of support. I had a meltdown.......but I'm going to be OKAY......Because, truly? I have all of YOU for support!

My renter is Waaaaaaaaaaay far behind. That is my monthly income for the most part. I make a Bit , working at Joyworks,,,,,,,,,,,and while my crafting/Shows have grown-I'm tapped. And my renter/tennant has not paid me what he owe,,,,,,,for Months, and months.

So? Just want to let you all know,,,,,,,,I'll post again WHEN I can...........Frankie owes mes for several Months.......and I may soon lose my phone/internet service for a while.

Just found out from a Friend...He's been payin' for a Healthclub membership........And I'm thinkin' a Game Console......And i'm in over draft...........Well you cut some people slack,,,,and have patience.....Until the screw you!

OOPS! Almost forgot the "Funny!" So last nite? Zoe and I were heading home from the Fairgrounds, with our Vehicles full of stuff,,,,,I'd put my "Mannie" Marilyn in the front seat of my 4x4. Her wig had fallen off and she was kind of "slouched" over. We made a quick stop at the AM PM and a young man was getting our of his car next to me. I got in line to pay and the Cashier and the woman in front of me buying gas were taking FOREVER!!!

I looked back at the young man rolled my eyes, sighed (apparently I lose patience when I'm exhausted) and told him I'd just finished an antique and craft show at the fairgrounds

"Oh. I guess, maybe THAT explains what I saw in your front seat. I thought somebody was either passed out or Dead!"

I laughed all the way home!

I wasn't going to post until after the Ruffles and Rust event this weekend, BUT,,,,,,,amidst the CHAOS of Jana, Jill, Me, and Kim getting ready for said event, Someone (Penny?) managed to take a couple pictures at Rita and My, Birthday Celebration at Joyworks yesterday morning. ..... (Rita and I share a Birthday every year,,,,,,exactly a Week apart!)

To say it was a CRAZY morning, is putting it lightly! So,,,,here's the dealy-o: Many of us were getting ready for the"Ruffles and Rust" event. Packing/pricing, getting ready to set up a "do" the show.

I have my own booth....
Kim (our baby Joyworker) has HER own booth.....
Jana is "doing a JOYWORKS booth..........

And oh yeah,,,,,,,,,,Penny is helping Me,,,,,,Luanne is Kim's Mom and I'm sure took and active roll in getting ready for the event too,,,,,and Jill is helping Jana........Oh,,,,,,,,and by the way??? The Joyworks STORE still has to be open and fully functional, because they get busy DURING the event!!!! Do the Math, if you'd like,,,,but we're all hoppin' in some respect to keep all the "balls in the air!"

So? At the Party? Most of us were like "Deer in the Headlights, or Well, you might say...a tad bit ADD! Not a birthday for ONE,,,,,but for TWO.......and the day before show Set up. But, it was too fun! We had a GREAT breakfast........Fun & creative Gifts from the "Bestest" Co-workers.........Even though many of us felt like we were headed for the "Starting Gate."

Love my Rita Girl,,,,,she and I will spend a day together SOON doin' girl things! And,,,,,Love my Joyworks girls,,,,,,,,,You always throw the BEST parties!

And Big love, appreciation and respect for Clarice,,,,,,,,,"Our fearless leader." Joyworks would NOT have continued/grown, flourished for 32 years without her. These shows are a TON of work. And it's hard for shop owners when these events occur and their staff takes part

But, for me, part of the way I "think" now,,,,,part of what I do,,,,,,,,,,,is a direct reflection of having Clarice and ALL the Joyworks Gals in my life. I have learned to look at things a bit different. So,,,,,,,"Sorry Clarice that I'm not working this weekend,,,,,and THANK YOU Clarice for your Visions, your Creativity.....YOU, Jana and the Joyworks crew, have Changed my life, my thinking, in SO, so many ways! (Including Rita insisting that we're still 50 each year!)

Feeling a Bit Vintage,,,,,,a Bit unraveled and a Bit "Special!" A reflection.....

Yesterday, I turned 55! I can't believe it! When, or HOW did I get this Old, or ,,,,I guess this Far in my life's Journeys?

There are So many aspects of my current life that make me happy, that make me reflective, that make me Wonder WHAT the Next Chapters are supposed to be.

Mostly? I like "Me." I mean, I like who I've evolved into. I Think. I wish I was Still a size 12, I wish I didn't have to remind my loving hair stylist to "add a touch of color" to my brows. I wish I didn't have to wear readers, or Really? Pluck a few white hairs from my Chin.........I've been single for several years now and I can go Days (Okay Weeks) without shaving my legs, because the Dogs don't care.......and well, WHO else is going to see them? My underwear is less than imaginative......my "Whitey tighty" grandma pants occupy more drawer space than my black silk thongs or bikinis.

But,,,,,,and that's a bit But, and NO, I don't have one of those,,,,,,,I've got no "junk in my trunk" but the spare Tire has filled out nicely around my Middle........

I still have a lot of wishes and dreams,,,,,,and as my dear little 92 year old Helen tells me,,,,,I have a LOT of life ahead of me. Wow!

So,,,,,,,WHAT and Whom, do the years ahead hold in store?

My Sister in Law Mary sent me this email a couple days ago........It's one of those "pass it on "and get Lucky" kind of things. Well, I love, love Love the sentiment, and I love her,,,,,,,,,She's been in my life/with my brother,,,,,,,since I was like 8 or 9. But the email she sent me? Is SO worth Sharing,,,,,,and cut/paste Pass it on.........I think you'll Love this!

A young wife sat on a sofa on a hot humid day,
drinking iced tea and visiting with her mother. As

they talked about life, about marriage, about the

responsibilities of life and the obligations of

adulthood, the mother clinked the ice cubes in her

glass thoughtfully and turned a clear, sober glance

be more important as you get older. No matter how

much you love your husband, no matter how much you

What a funny piece of advice!' the young woman
thought. Haven't I just gotten married?

Haven't I just joined the couple-world? I'm now a
married woman, for goodness sake! A grownup! Sure
my husband and the family we may start will be all I
need to make my life worthwhile!'

But she listened to her mother. She kept contact
with her sisters and made more women friends each
year. As the years tumbled by, one after another,
she gradually came to understand that her mother really
knew what she was talking about. As time and nature
work their changes and their mysteries upon a woman,
sisters are the mainstays of her life.

After more than 50 years of living in this world,
here is what I've learned:
THIS SAYS IT ALL:
Time passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don't do what they're supposed to do.
Hearts break.
Parents die.
Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.
BUT.........
Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how
many miles are
between you. A girl friend is never farther away
than needing her can reach.
When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you
have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life
will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on,
praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on
your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the
valley's end.
Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk
beside you....Or come in and carry you out.
Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters,
daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, Mothers,
Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended
family: all bless our life!
The world wouldn't be the same without women, and
neither would I. When we began this adventure called
womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or
sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we
would need each other.
Every day, we need each other still. Pass this on.

You can choose to copy this message and pass it on, and I could too. But, I loved the message, the reminder, the strength. And well, coming from my sister in law,,,,,who came into my life at the age or 8 or 9........it means the world. I cannot imagine NOT having her in my life.

This isn't about "Male Bashing." There are some great guys out there! My Brother is one of those,,,,and I hope my sons live with integrity and purpose. But there IS something special about our Women friends. New AND old,,,,,Near AND far.

I feel SO blessed to have so many wonderful women in my life! We ARE Strength for each other, support, understanding, compassion, encouragement, learning and LIGHT! My birthday just reminded me of how many WONDERFUL women I'm blessed to have in my circle. Thank you~ for being part of my life. Counting my "female" blessings,,,,,,,and okay,,,,,my oldest son Sean-that has been through SO much,,,,,,,and I think has finally "come into his 'own'" literally took me by the arm and walked me to a wonderful Birthday dinner last nite!

I don't think I'll be posting for a week or so,,,,,I have SO much to finish for Ruffles and Rust next weekend! Ackk! Have a GREAT week and I hope to post TONS of pics next Sunday of the Event!

Once again I'm trying to post in this new format.....I uploaded "Google Chrome" to support this new system,,,,but my Toolbar is at "Half Mast." IN other words, I SEE half of each Icon that supports Fonts/ Editing and well, yeah, pictures.

I have Been So busy, between working and getting ready for the "Ruffles and Rust" Event in a few weeks anyway,,,,I haven't taken any pics!

But Fall is definetly here in Western Washington.....it goes from cold/warm, Sun/Rain......and everything in between! One of the things I fell in love with Last Fall, was, "Carmel, Apple Cider!" Great for when you want a BIT of Sweet,,,,no more caffeine and a "touch of Fall!"

Torani? The folks that make all those Flavors that you ask for in your coffees at the Latte' stands, make a GREAT Light Caramel Syrup........Which you can add to Cider,,,,,along with Mulling Spices or a Cinnamon Stick and whole Cloves!

Hope you are enjoying the "fruits" of Fall and doing what you Love to do! I'm feeling a BIT ADD-I seem to have a LOT of projects that need to be finished in the next week or so..........

Frankly, I have reached a point of decisions. I support myself. I work weekends at my Beloved Joyworks, and rely on my Rental Cottage for the rest of my income-and I'm owed more than 3 months rend.. And, well, I pick up extra's doing my Crafts/orders and Shows.

This next couple of weeks, is going to be a BIG deciding factor as to HOW I proceed. ....Scarey? you Betcha! So,,,,,I'm going to seriously ask for prayers/ guidance/wisdom and input from ALL of YOU! I need your thoughts and insight more NOW than ever.

I've had lots of kind and dear messages from a LOT of you as of late on Facebook and via Email. Thank you. It means the World right now!

I've truly been So busy and recent postings, which I THOUGHT were fun/enlightening or Creative,,,,,,,,and too a bit of Time to post.....I had a "Moment" or Two where I questioned What I was spending time on! I'm sorry. I truly LOVE my Blog friend,,,,readers/commenters or otherwise. I just feel a BIT (?) spread thin and wondered whether anyone was really Reading this,,,,,,,or whether I was just Talking/Typing to thin air! Truly,,,,,,,,,,,
I am grateful to have Blog friends and followers,,,,,so forgive my "Pity Pot" moment!

So? If you've followed my Blog for a while,,,,,,,You KNOW, I throw it "all" out there. My life? Well yeah, pretty much an open Book. And Things I create, techniques, ideas,,,,,,,and well, I don't hold back! You can copy my stuff........ ("Hello" 'friends in China, India, or other Third World Countries,,,,,that somehow managed to find their way to my little blog.........)

I SEE you! You're in my Traffic Feed and I stop and think, I HOPE you're getting a decent wage for what YOU are doing/copying..........
Otherwise, WHY would people from Cambodia, Sri Lanka and the likes be looking at MY Blog? (And I'm sure others......) Hey they're doing their jobs, and my stuff isn't licensed. And I think I/WE should feel a BIT flattered that they're looking at what we're making/doing ...........

A bad, embarrassing, fall, and a Smile!

After I posted on Wednesday nite about fundraising for Breast Cancer and Lyphoma? I took my dogs on a short walk and Fell. Hard. I skinned my knee, had gravel embedded in one palm and took a good "brunt" of it on my other hand. I Think I tripped over grass growing between the cement,,,,when I looked back and examined the "scene" the next day.......Two days later, yes, I'm a bit less sore,,,,,but still have a "lovely" prize on my right (my Good) Knee!

Anyway,,,,,,,,I took a road trip today and picked up some supplies,,,,,,,I spent the majority of my day in Redmond/Bellvue and the likes. Shew! I'm glad that I spend MOST of my time in a small town now........I hated the traffic!

So,,,,,,,,,I Have to share a stinkin Cute photo.....from my friend/client Emily of "Simply Sweet Cupcakes." They now have TWO shops here in Snohomish, but Emily has also been doin' the "Snohomish Farmer's Market" Gig Every Thursday........All Summer and into Fall, which ended last Evening........Check out these "Customers!"

I share my "wares" aka Birthday Hats that I recently made for "Simply Sweet." But this is a Photo opp I had to Share! "Where's my Cookie, Mom?"

Various Shades and Textures in Pinks! $7 Bucks- $2 Dollars goes to Breast Cancer research........

As I mentioned a while back, my friend Jodene, Long time Co-owner with her Husband Tom, also of "Tom Walkers Hair Studio," has recently been diagnosed and treated (sucessfully) for Lymphoma. Again, all hair clips will be $7 Dollars each, with $2 dollars going towards Lymphoma research. And again, I'll be happy to mail any out to you for an additional $1 postage.

Most of of know several women who have experienced Breast Cancer. I've lived, loved and worked with many of them. (Hi Sandi, Lulu, Peggy, if you're reading this!) I'm glad that are all still a part of my life. However, several years ago I lost a friend, still quite young, to the disease. One in 10 of us will get it in our lifetime. ...

Lymphoma is new to me. But my friend, Jodene from Tom Walker's Hair Studio, is NOT. I've known her, respected and admired her for years,,,,well, truly decades-as I met her when I was just 20 and she well, just a BIT older. She's SO loved and so appreciated in this community,,,,,and it breaks my heart that She, her husband Tom, their familiy and well, our community has felt the impact of this disease. She's doing well. And she does have tremendous support. I think it's important to raise awarness about this Cancer, too.

I used to sew Everything..... My clothes- other peoples clothes, Costumes for High School plays. This last year, I've been creating/altering some "corsets" and I think it would be fun to make some other pieces. gauze "Lawn" blouses," embellished vests, corsets, skirts and the likes. I'm too busy doing other things right now, but I think this MAY be a fun avenue to explore in the months ahead!

Remember the old question-"What do you want to BE when you grow up?" Frankly, I've decided that is a question that I'll never fully have an answer to. I LOVE to do SO many things! I love to make and think about making SO many things! I love to READ and learn and Grow..... And, again, Frankly? I don't think I ever want to grow up........just evolve, learn, create and always, Always embrace the Changes!

I hope you TOO are growing, changing, learning, challenging and MOST importantly, being TRUE to yourselves! What EVER that entails! And, I hope you are kind, open and receptive.

My day's are TOO, too full. But I'm blessed to be loving what I'm doing, and to be surrounded by SO many talented, loving people! I know I'm not keeping up! I So wish I had time to be everywhere and Do and BE everything.....I feel so Blessed to have So many wonderful people in my life....near AND far! Even if I can't stay in touch,,,,,you are in my heart, on my mind and I SO wish you the BEST!

I hope everyone is enjoying the last golden days of Summer......well, it's officially Fall now, but you wouldn't know by the lingering warmth in the Pacific Northwest! Today was HOT,,,,at least for us! I've been SO busy, I no longer know which end is UP!

The Testing title? I THINK, I HOPE I PRAY when I hit the next button or two, I FINALLY figured out my camera issues......So, Hold your breath for me, would you? I'm gonna see if this whole thingy works!

More on my camera upload/editing issues later,,,,,,if you are at all interested.......But by George, or in this case, Microsoft, "by Bill," I think I've got it!

My pics apparently have been uploading to a couple of Optional editing programs. When I FIRST started blogging, my editing WAS all Microsoft,,,,but my camera was a piece of poop.....to be frank....or in my case Shell..........So, my newest and improved camera is a Canon which I'd been editing with another program......and well my "Ms. Canon" didn't get "along" with the software I was using,,,,,Microsoft has been "there" and I'm back, after 3 years, 3 cameras to the photo editing software.......I know,,,,blah, blah, blah, BUT, "Thanks Bill!"

So the altered slippers are Vintage Dearforms,,,,,,,,still in their packages, and I added bits of ribbon, and a bit of Vintage Millenery stash.........These all stemmed from covering a pair of my own shoes to wear at an event.........Comfy, cute, Vintage ......Forget your feet and enjoy! I hope some Vendors OR shoppers at "Ruffles and Rust" will seek a bit of FUN relief in these babies!

A Tease,,,,,,,and an update

I have been SO busy, I cannot even begin to tell you,,,,and well, that, and the old ADD, or "Scattered Brain" for lack of another term, has got me doing,,,,,"THIS, THAT and oh yeah, The other Thing!"

Here's a "Sneek-Peek" at on of my FAV projects as of late....a Teaser or sorts because I want the "Girls" My Friends Deb and Linda, to get them FIRST before I show the full photos -I had SO much fun making these! I hope they enjoy them half as much as I do!

They're headed over to Spokane for June Bugs Event, which I am sure will be incredible! I just love all those gals I've met through Farm Chicks,,,,,,,,,and I'm sure the show will be fantastic~ IF you can get away,,,I have NO doubt, it will be Fantastic!

Moi? I'm Getting ready for next month's Ruffles and Rust show at the Monroe Fairgrounds,,,, and Doing a few custom orders (Mostly Ribbon Necklaces) makin' Birthday hats and oh YEAH,,,,,,I've got tons of hair clips/headbands and the likes to finish.......

Today? I worked on painting furniture,,,,,,,while the weather STILL cooperated!

My Camera and computer, are NOT talking once again,,,,,,,I THOUGHT that was all resolved, but apparently I need some some sort of a mediator to get them to communicate once again! One more month,,,,,,,,,,,One more month and I promise,,,,new phones, new puter and we'll all get along just fine!
In the meantime,,,,I listen to Jackie Evanko's CD while I type this and wait for my dear friend Penny to get home from her 3 weeks in Paris,,,,,and a week in Africa! Cannot WAIT to her all about it!

New Masks, a "Fascinating" Halloween, an Opinion please and Getting REAL(istic)

Busy couple of days! Working on some furniture, fulfilling a few orders and creating a few new items.......I really had fun making these Masks!

Turquoise, Raspberry, Lime green and Golds.....

Hard to tell from the photos, but I used Textured Creme wallpaper for the "base" papers, Hope to finish a couple more tomorrow.........

Then "Marla," My Mannequin Muse found this Mini Witch hat, simply "Fascinating!"

A bit hard to see in the photo ON her, so I took another,,,,,,,,

Today, I also took my little 91yo friend Helen for a Cupcake-This time at "Simply Sweet" Cupcakes new 2nd location! I've been meaning to stop in and check it out! Located just outside of Historical Snohomish in a brand spankin' new building! We had a "cuppycake" and coffee and Emily requested more Hats for the store!

And, OH? Give me an opinion if you please! I have some rattan chairs that I repainted Black for my "Ruffles and Rust"booth next month.......and for the cushions, I have a neutral open-weave fabric, similar to Burlap, but a BIT lighter in color and quite a bit softer in texture. I'm trying to decide whether to put a transfer or stencil on the seat cushions, or just leave them plain......thoughts? Opinions? I'd love to hear 'em!

I TRULY tried to log on the last couple of evenings and play "catch up" with some blog friends.

My son Andrew keeps telling me I need to buy a laptop and get rid or my old clunker and go wireless,,,,,the service I pay for a landline phone and internet is becoming extinct. I HATE the thought of just tossing my 'puter.' I hate the thought that I/'we" are outdated! And if you've followed me for a while, you may remember I don't USE a cell phone. Unless I'm on a long road trip and THEN it's only for emergencies and don't ask me the number because I don't KNOW it! HA! Okay,,,,,Birthday in a month, exactly! Oh my Stars...... One that USED to be monumental.....one that USED to trigger the start of Social Security checks......I am not THAT old!

So, perhaps, along with the pink highlights I got in my hair this year, I'd best decide whether I'm gonna get OLD and complacent, or upgrade my G-Darn Computer, Internet and Phone!

Working on New Fall Necklaces .....and Full of Hot Air!

We're moving into my Favorite time of year.......Crisp, clear mornings and gorgeous colors! But where DO the days GO? Hope you all had a good weekend! I got several projects started today,and a few Finished !Worked on a bit more Halloween, but primarily some Fall Toned or "Autumnal"Necklaces........

"Martha" is a bit too anal for my way of thinking, but I've gotta at least give her credit for "Autumnal." It's a $2 Dollar word, with inflation, and all that...........So, I digress. I made "Autumnal" Necklaces.You can use that word,,,,it really IS free. (Shell, for heaven's sake, stay on task for a change!) SO?

Overview......

I had two fall toned necklaces commissioned, and thought I'd make a third,,,,,,so they have a choice.

I had fun using different textures AND some awesome Vintage Velvet ribbons that I bought at Farm Chicks a while back in a soft orange and celadon green......How can you NOT love Vintage Velvet ribbons?

Added some Velvet green leaves to this one,,,,,,,It all appears a BIT brighter here than it actually is...

Last one,,,,,again, my color rendition is a bit off......Lovin' the rich Velvets and Satins!

We've had quite a streak of Warm--HOT? weather at least for us,,,,,,but the morning's have been cool and I generally hear the "whooshing" sounds of Hot Air Ballooons about the time I've finished my first cup of coffee. Their flight path generally falls right over my roofline,,,,,,they are LOW and I can see the riders Shadows, if not their faces! I'm sure they're thinking, "Lady, we see you down there your PJ's!"

They move pretty fast, by the time I grabbed my camera, they were over the roof of my little Cottage in back!

(If you look carefully in the lefthand corner, you'll see a Glimpse of my Hop Vines!~ Almost ready for the pickin' and dryin'! They are something this year! I take a better photo before I start cutting them down.)

Happy Monday, I hope your new week started out well, I can't wait to check out what's going on with at least SOME of you! I don't know about all of you, but my NEXT project is to learn how to Juggle....See if you get a Visual on THIS:

Work at a Real Job, Part-time, Maintain Two homes, a "cranky" old detatched garage, which include all the gardens- HA!, and repairs on "historical homes" aka older than dirt and always needing something, do ALL your Crafty stuff (orders, requests/billing), prep for 3 or 4 shows a year ( and if you DO them, you KNOW how much work that is!) tend to the needs of FOUR animals-daily, if not sometimes HOURLY, and Oh yeah! Keep up with friends in ALL facets of your life, tend to the needs of a 91 years old (daily and weekly), and Maybe touch base with a family member or two every now and then.

I'm blessed. I'm never lonely. I have local friends and members of the community, and then,,,,,"Oh my Stars!" I have Blog friends both near AND far.....some whom I've met, and some that I just FEEL like I've met, or know.

Yes, I live alone-well, other than the fur babies, and have to do "it all." And yes, as you may have guessed by the last paragraph, at times it gets overwhelming. Like right now. I feel like I'm over my head. But this too shall pass!I'm sure we ALL feel like this at times!

Here is another crown I made, the first of last week, using Vintage wallpaper that I saw a Joyworks customer carrying around the store......She'd bought it at one of our local shops, "Faded Elegance," and when I mentioned how MUCH I loved it,,,,,and what I make with Wallpapers,,,,she Gave me a good chunk!She said I could HAVE it, but I slipped her some Cash.............Cremes, Aquas, Warm Pinks and Florals are you kidding me? I love these colors! I managed to "squeeze out a BIT more for Birthday hats, and I just MAY have enough for a Crown for the R&R Event in October............

I met Todd for the first time last year at the Ruffle's and Rust Event at the Fair grounds....He helped me out with a couple of bigger pieces for my booth,,,,and THEN? I saw his booth.....Almost as gorgeous as he is!
I'm so glad I've gotten to know him better this past year!

In closing, I'm sharing ONE last photo,,,,,(I tried to posted the day that my camera editing program went awry)......But I simply LOVE this handmade Doll from the 30's! Not sure if I'm going to end up keeping her, or if she'll be for sale at Ruffles and Rust in October...
